Joomla updates 2.x

How to do Joomla version updates and the extension updates throughJoomla’s control panel (Site/Control panel)?

First, Login to your website’s http://yourwebpagename.com/administrator page:

JOOMLA UPDATE (1.)

When a red exclamation mark appears at the top of the Joomla update icon, a new version has become available for Joomla. Click “Update Now” icon (1.)

Click Install Update button (3.) and wait until the update finishes! Don’t leave the page until you see the following message “Your web page has been successfully updated. Your Joomla! version is now xxxx”.

UPDATING THE EXTENTIONS (2.)

When a red ball appears at the top of the extension update icon (2.), new updates are available. Click “Updates are available” button.

Choose the extension you want to update by clicking the box next to the extension name (4.),  then click the Update(5.) button. Update each extension which is on the list individually.

IF A NEW JOOMLA VERSION ISN’T SHOWN IN THE ICON

A new version of Joomla is available, but Joomla Update icon shows you have the latest version. What could be the reason for this? This problem is usually a cache problem. Go to the Extensions/Extension manager/Update page. Click Delete the old cache files and then click the Find Updates icon. After this the newest version of Joomla should be available for you. The version should be shown behind the Joomla Update icon. (1.).

IF THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW EXTENSION UPDATE FAILS

The installation of new extension updates won't always work just by clicking the Update icon. The reason might be that the extension is not free and you can get the update package only if you pay for it. After purchasing the the new update files  you can install them via Extension manager/Install page.

You can order Update service from Internet-Content.net (IC) and IC updates the Joomla and extensions automatically when a new version is available. IC also informs you about possible commercial update packages that are needed for your website.
